Yeah I’m home and the weathers nice, and I don’t have another trip until Wednesday, I can get the Kayak out and paddle. The pace of work travel has made my weekly trips more quarterly.

I was able to get out on the water today , only to confirm how out of shape I’ve become with all this traveling I’ve been doing, and I wont have another chance until late August…

The north end of West Neck Creek which I guess is really London Bridge Creek, is nothing but an open sewer, and people have asked me in the past, why don’t I do more “Urban” kayaking, I’ll tell you why, it is completely and totally depressing, and real disgusting. Add to that rude canoeists and fisherman at the Dozier landing, just topped off the day. It was such a downer that I am really reconsidering why I do this and if I’m going to keep it going, or if I’m just going to sell all my gear, and go sailing.

I started out really positive, had the old blue Pungo 120, water level was up easy launch, and I was just going to see if I could make it to the Bridge at Shipps Corner, never been able to make it, so it was a challenge, and I needed to get back in the swing of things, flat protected water with minimal issues. West Neck Creek is really nothing but a ditch to the North, with the occasional surprise here and there. It seemed the further north I got the more trash there was in the water, and even more so when in the vicinity of populated areas like the Lake Placid area, mainly bottles, plastic toys an furniture and foam products. London Bridge Creek, is a total mess starting about 200 yards north of the Shipps Corner Bridge, starting at the trailer park all the way to Lynnhaven Parkway and Im betting beyond…

On a closing note, it appears the City has spent a dollar or two improving the facility at Dozier Bridge, but it would have been real nice if they had brought in a back hoe and taken a couple of scoops of mud out, or at least the rocks that people have thrown in to make it even shallower…

On the trip home,I was going to try an alternate site but conditions (icy ramps) weren’t really conducive to launching, Beggars Bridge is bad enough with out ice.

I came to the realization today, that it’s not the length of the trip, or how fast you do it, it is the trip itself…
I really need to get back to that, and just enjoy…
